1960 Senator Kennedy wins presidency. his opponent Vice-President Nixon chose not to challenge the vote totals in Illinois and other states which he may have lost because of tampering. Hawaii chose two slates of electors that cycle one on election night the other 4 January 1961 because of a recount. Alabama became the first state in modern times to choose a slate of unpledged electors.
