5 April Back it Goes

1792 First bill sent back to originating house with objections by President George Washington. This is not a true veto a concept that does not exist in our constitution but does usually have the effect of preventing the bill from becoming law or forcing changes to be made since it requires 2\3 of both houses to pass it over the president's objections.
