17 November Verdict.
1734 John Peter Zenger arrested for Seditious Libel of Colonial Governor William Crosby of New York. He was eventually able to get a jury to acquit him against the court's instruction because they agreed that he wrote the truth. This became an important step in Early American Law because it is the first well known case of jury nullification eventually libel laws was changed to give to allow a general verdict of conviction or acquittal rather than the jury if the defendant published matter which under the previous law the court would determine the question of libel.
