1914 After announcement of Russian mobilization Germany says Russia as 12 hours to cease military measures against it and Austria-Hungary or face War.

30 July Full Mobilisation.

1914 Tsar Nicholas fully mobililises the army after suggesting a halt if Austria Hungary stops demanding it be allowed into Serbia to investigate the killing of the Archduke. .

1914 Serbia issues response accepting most of Austria-Hungary's demands When news reached Berlin Kaiser Wilhelm wrote "every cause for war falls to the ground." he believed the sticking points could be worked out by talks. Meanwhile Serbia mobilizes as a defensive measure.

1914 German Socialists party makes a statement publicly opposing German military assistance for Austria-Hungary.

23 July Ultimatum Sent.

1914 Austria Hungary sends an ultimatum to Serbia to provoke a declaration of war.

22 July Demand Read.

1914 Austrian demands read by Chancellor of Germany who is angry at the deception Austria was making to the Kaiser in making such excessive demands on the Serbs after Germany was led to believe it would not do anything to provoke a war.

20 July Note Shown and Sent

1914 A draft of  a note detailing the findings of no complicity in Archduke's Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie's killings is shown to the Emperor and sent to The Austrian Ambassador in Belgrade with instructions to present it to the Serbs on the 23 and the major powers the day after.   

13 July Report Deliverd

1914 Frederich Von Wisener reports to the Austro-Hungarian Government that based on an investigation conducted at Sarajevo he believes the Serb Government has nothing to do with killing the Archduke and his wife. The government then drafts an ultimatum that Serbia must accept by the 23rd or face war. Serbia appeals to Russia which says Serbia must accept the ultimatum which it does in principle.

6 July Assurance Given What Could Go Wrong?

1914 Kaiser Wilhelm II gives Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary an assurance that Germany will support anything Austria-Hungary did in response to the shooting deaths of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife.
